a«f * THE FORUM I Last Sunday, for no particular reason and from ao special urge, I drove out to the ball grounds. H aring no k ith nor kin on the team and not haring witnessed a baseball game for more years than I should like to confess to, I had. no particular Internet ip the playing sure that the home team must win, of course. RBFLKCnOXS OF A In consequence,' my attention SPECTATOR AT A SUNDAY was divided between players and BASEBALL GAME fans. I took ample opportunity to atudy my co-partners in distress By Mrs. Chips on the hard bleacher' seats. I Ottr small elty has been con fronted, recently, w ith the mom entous question of Bunday base ball. Its citizenry became divided into two earnest factions — tho ayes and the noes. As they so of ten are,, the noes of the communi ty were victorious and the peace fu l little city a t the foot of the Slskiyofis has not had Its Sunday afternoon tranquility disturbed by the blatancy of Itaseball. But enthusiastic youth was n it to be denied. I t evolved a way of getting around this problem just as it seems to be able to get around so many modern problems. I t turned defeat into victory by the simple means of renting some body’s potato patch Just a bit outside the city limits and turn ing it into a very creditable sem blance to a baseball field. I t as sembled some w illing aspirants, 'uniformed them, gave them'some necessary paraphernalia and want to the bat, so to speak. Ia a few weeks there was ready a fa irly smooth diamond, some brand new bleachers, an . enthusiastic team in working order and— what was needed most of all— plenty of moral support. The team joined a league composed of the nines from neighboring towns <nd began to play ball. NOW HE KNOWS Henry did the washing at home last week (or triad to.) It ’s a painful memory? Next time his wife says “ L e t’s wash today,” h e’ll reply, “ all right, darlipg, roll up the duds while I call The Ashland Laun d ry .” They ’ll get the ser vice they want when* they want it and th at is what makes a pafnless washday. 31 Water Street AND Pate is something that man hands to himself. I perceived that a baseball crowd is assuredly the least sensitive crowd on earth. I t must be.
